London, 25 June 2024.

Graveney School in Tooting, South West London, will honour Dr. Lydia Mapstone, CEO and co-founder of BoobyBiome, with a purple plaque on June 21st. This celebration recognizes Lydia’s achievement in winning the prestigious Women in Innovation Award from Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency.

The purple plaque, Innovate UK's unique take on the traditional blue plaques that honour historical figures, underscores the significant contributions of contemporary women innovators. Currently, only 15% of blue plaques in London celebrate women, mirroring the underrepresentation of women in media, the workplace, and education systems across the UK. By celebrating Lydia’s entrepreneurial achievements, Innovate UK aims to inspire the next generation of students at Graveney School and beyond.

BoobyBiome is dedicated to improving infant health through its breast milk research platform. From its labs out of the Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Hospital, the company is developing innovative products designed to support and enhance the microbiomes of infants, ensuring they have a healthy start in life.

Dr Mapstone, an alumna of Graveney School, expressed her gratitude and hope for future innovators:

It is an incredible honour to be recognised with a purple plaque at my former school. I hope this serves as an inspiration to the students at Graveney and encourages more young women to pursue their passions in science and innovation. Our work at BoobyBiome is driven by the desire to significantly reduce the incidence of preventable diseases in infants, so that the next generation can achieve even greater heights.

Dr Mapstone is part of a network of over 200 Innovate UK Women in Innovation Award winners, who are celebrated for their groundbreaking contributions across various fields. Innovate UK hopes that by highlighting Lydia's achievements, students will be inspired to follow in her footsteps and consider careers in science, technology, and innovation.
